Guyana Anti-Corruption Network Clarifies Status of Individual Referenced in Marudi Mountain Story
Georgetown, Guyana — March 29, 2026
The Guyana Anti-Corruption Network (GACN) wishes to clarify information concerning a young man referenced in a recently published article titled “Kidnapping, Beatings, Death Threats, Guns: How Gold Mining in Marudi Mountain Became a Zone of Terror Protected by Guyana Government,” which discusses events connected to mining activities in the Marudi Mountain.
The family of the young man depicted in the story contacted the Guyana Anti-Corruption Network to state that he is alive and well. According to the family, they wished to ensure that the public is aware of his wellbeing and to correct any misunderstanding or speculation suggesting otherwise.
In light of this communication, GACN is issuing this clarification to help ensure accurate information is available to the public and to avoid unnecessary distress for the individual and his family.
GACN continues to monitor governance, transparency, and accountability issues relating to mining activities and community impacts in southern Guyana, including matters affecting residents and small-scale miners in and around the Marudi Mountain area.
The organization encourages responsible reporting and urges members of the public not to make up information particularly when it concerns the safety or wellbeing of individuals.
