Guarding Guyana's Future, Investigating the Cost of Corruption

To the Guyana Anti-Corruption Network,

I am writing to you as a concerned citizen with direct knowledge of recent events within the South Rupununi District Council (SRDC) in light of your ongoing reporting on the situation in Marudi.

I can confirm that your recent exposés and the surrounding public attention have caused significant internal turmoil. It is my observation that the SRDC executive has become either compromised or simply too afraid to handle the situation with integrity. Following the leak of specific information regarding Marudi—particularly details about a closed-door meeting with the minister—the executive summoned all staff to an internal meeting. The sole purpose was to interrogate us and uncover who had spoken and shared information.

The atmosphere was one of distrust and intimidation. Without any concrete evidence, the head of the SRDC has since removed several staff members from the body’s official WhatsApp group. The only grounds for this were their suspected involvement in leaking the information that, as your reporting shows, needed to see the light of day.

I hope this helps clarify the internal situation here.
